The City of Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications launched a QR Code campaign that aims to inform residents about emergency situations and to help them prepare for these.
The OEMC QR codes will take scanners to the City of Chicago OEMC’s emergency preparedness options. Through the emergency information provided, city locals will know how they could prepare for emergencies and how they should appropriately respond to each one.
Scanners can also opt to register for mobile emergency alerts from NotifyChicago.com and for the ability to check out recent press releases and communication from OEMC. This is a great way for locals to stay informed before, during and after emergency situations.
More specifically, residents will receive through their mobile phones emergency notification alerts on traffic disruptions, severe weather conditions, health news, and major city incidents. The QR codes will also give people direct access to the OEMC and Alert Chicago sites where they can find resources on how to build emergency kits and how to develop emergency plans.
This move is part of the City of Chicago’s effort to make emergency information mobile and to continuously cultivate a culture of preparedness among residents. The city had decided to adopt software applications and make it easier and more convenient for people to access emergency information. This is not the city of Chicago’s first campaign using advanced or cutting edge technology.
