The town of Camden in Maine has hosted a seminar on quick response codes for small businesses. At the free seminar, small business owners learned what QR codes are and how they can use these codes to benefit their enterprise.
According to Camden’s economic development director, Brian Hodges, QR codes are used in many national chain store outlets in Maine, but the state is generally slow when it comes to using these codes. He said that while these two-dimensional matrix bar codes are already popular among some businesses, there are also some who still find them a complete mystery.
This is the reason why Hodges came up with the seminar. He wanted to change the fact that a lot of small business owners still have no idea what QR codes are, how these codes are used, and what these can do for them.
Hodges shared with the small business owners the unlimited potential that QR codes bring. Through the seminar, he shared how small businesses can use QR codes on stickers, on business cards, or on store window displays in order to bridge their offline material with online content.
The seminar was the first of its kind for the town. It was co-hosted by Women, Work and Community. Hodges, however, intends to hold more similar workshops in order to help local businesses navigate new media and its other issues.
Hodges is now busy putting together a new project, which is a walking tour of the town’s historic landmarks. This project involves installing small placards around town with quick response codes that take scanners to more information regarding the particular places or spots without having to spend so much money or time on huge signs containing the substantial information.
We think that what Hodges is advocating is admirable and Camden’s small business owners are fortunate to be able to attend free seminars regarding this cutting edge technology.
